Converting a Malaysian driver licence in Queensland

Malaysia is not on the Queensland recognised countries list, so you will need to pass a road rules test and a practical driving test.

Resident visa holders must get a Queensland licence once they have lived in Queensland for 3 months (or 3 months after the visa is granted, if it was granted after moving here).

Queensland asks for a recognised English translation from an approved NAATI translator if your licence is not in English. Our translations are done by NAATI certified translators.

Malaysian documents for Queensland agencies

Births, deaths, marriages and name changes in Queensland are registered by Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Queensland). If you are giving them a Malaysian birth or marriage certificate - for a name change, for example - we translate it into English. The same certified translations are used for visa and citizenship applications with the Department of Home Affairs, and for Australian passport applications.

If you live on the Tweed Heads side of the border you are in New South Wales, where Transport for NSW accepts licence translations only from Multicultural NSW or the Department of Home Affairs.
