Converting a Malaysian driver licence in the ACT

Malaysia does not have recognition status in the ACT, so training and testing apply (the ACT Road Rules test and a practical driving test).

A permanent visa holder can use the overseas licence for 3 months, then needs an ACT licence.

Access Canberra accepts an official English translation from an embassy or consulate, the Department of Home Affairs, or a translator certified by NAATI. Our translations are done by NAATI certified translators.

Malaysian documents for the ACT agencies

Births, deaths, marriages and name changes in the ACT are registered by Births, Deaths and Marriages, Access Canberra. If you are giving them a Malaysian birth or marriage certificate - for a name change, for example - we translate it into English. The same certified translations are used for visa and citizenship applications with the Department of Home Affairs, and for Australian passport applications.

The High Commission of Malaysia is in Canberra, at 7 Perth Avenue, Yarralumla, with the public entrance via 129 Empire Circuit (Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
